Conceived within a unique edition of the Festival, aimed to provide a practical response to the film industry in a time of global health crisis that forced productions to go on hiatus, the section The Films After Tomorrow, which consists of twenty projects (ten international, ten Swiss), offers a stimulating overview of contemporary arthouse cinema, with young talents standing alongside renowned filmmakers. Two juries made up of leading film professionals will reward the best international and Swiss project with two Pardo 2020 prizes, worth CHF 70,000 each. In addition, the Festival offers the brand new and prestigious Campari Award (CHF 50,000), Swatch Award (CHF 30,000), and SRG SSR Award (a TV promotional campaign worth CHF 100,000), as well as three prizes awarded by the Cinema&Gioventù jury.

The international jury of The Films After Tomorrow will also give the brand new, prestigious Campari Award: a special jury prize, worth CHF 50,000, in support of the production of one of the international projects presented during Locarno 2020.

The prizes given by the international jury of The Films After Tomorrow include the Swatch Award, which will go to the most innovative international project and is worth CHF 30,000. The director of the winning project will be invited to design a limited-edition watch that best represents their film and will serve as the official watch of Locarno74 in 2021.

The awards given to the Swiss projects in The Films After Tomorrow include the prestigious SRG SSR Award, with which SSR supports a national project by guaranteeing a TV promotional campaign worth CHF 100,000 francs when the film gets released in Swiss cinemas.

The educational initiative of the Festival is aimed at students aged between 18 and 21 . Among the participants of Cinema&Gioventù are designated the youth juries called to evaluate the official competitions of the Locarno Film Festival.
