As of 2021, a new award has been added to the Locarno Film Festival's list of honors: the Locarno Kids Award la Mobiliare, given to someone capable of bringing cinema to younger viewers.
Now in its third year, the Locarno Kids Award la Mobiliare will be awarded to Luc Jacquet, the French biologist and filmmaker who, traveling the world and through cinema, has been able to tell the animal and plant perspective on the big screen with his documentaries, conveying a powerful ecological message to younger generations.
The award ceremony on Monday, August 7 on the Piazza Grande will be followed on August 8 by a conversation with the Locarno Film Festival audience and an additional moment of exchange with younger viewers. Among his films, the masterpiece La Marche de l'empereur (March of the Penguins, 2005), Academy Award for best documentary in 2006 will be screened.
