Mamadou Dia is a Senagalese filmmaker with an MFA in directing and screenwriting from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. His feature debut, Baamum Nafi (Nafi’s Father, 2019),had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, winning the Pardo d'oro Cineasti del presente and the Swatch First Feature Award. His previous short, Samedi Cinema (2016), was shown at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. In his work, Dia draws on his own experiences to explore the confines between fiction and reality.
