Sergio da Costa has a Portuguese background and was born in Lausanne in 1984. He earned a degree in cinema from the HEAD – Geneva. There, he directed two shorts: Entretien avec Almiro Vilar da Costa (2009) and Snack-bar Aquário (2010). In 2012, he co-directed the documentary Aux bains de la reine (2012) with Maya Kosa. Their film Rio Corgo (2015) screened at the Berlinale in 2016. In 2019, their feature L’île aux oiseaux (2019) competed in Concorso Cineasti del presente at the Locarno Film Festival.
