Valérie Massadian is a Franco-Armenian photographer and filmmaker. She learned her craft working with artists, such as Nan Goldin, who gave her the confidence to start her own work. Her debut Nana (2011) won the Pardo per la migliore opera prima at Locarno. Her work concentrates focuses on female characters. Their animality, their poetics, their politics, how they relate to the world and nature. Nurtured by relationships built with each protagonist, her films play with and redraw the boundaries of fiction.
