Supporting Cinemas

The future of films also depends on movie theaters.
Locarno2020 is working alongside the cinema industry with a major nationwide initiative and a fundraising.

Closer to Life is a solidarity initiative for Swiss independent cinemas of the Locarno Film Festival and la Mobiliare, which actively supports 78 cinemas across the country and offers over 10’000 tickets for free.

The Locarno Film Festival has also opened a fundraiser for anyone wishing to support Swiss cinemas with a free donation.

Two nights of screenings – August 9 and 14 – to pay homage to the great auteur cinema supported by the Locarno Film Festival: here is the programme for Fuori orario. Cose (mai) viste, historic cinematic content broadcast in Italy on Rai 3, including previews, rediscoveries and surprising archive material.

Photo Exhibition

73 years’ worth of magic and history tied to the Locarno Film Festival lives on in the photographs capturing memorable Piazza Grande moments. With the support of La Posta, this open-air exhibition brings the Festival back to life in the captivating Piazza Grande location.
